Boys & Girls Club of Manchester: Helping Kids Reach Their Full Potential

The Boys & Girls Club of Manchester started out as the Manchester Boys Club in 1907. It then changed to its current name in 1983. Plus, they’re actually one of the 53 original organizations that formed what is now Boys & Girls Club of America.

While it’s been around for a long time, its mission has always remained the same: to help children “realize their full potential as productive, responsible, and caring individuals.”

They offer various programs before school, after school, and in the summer. Also, they’re always looking for volunteers during one of these programs. You could be a Kids Club Homework Helper, assisting with their after-school work. Or, you could help with the Teen Cooking Program, where you’ll teach teens to use simple ingredients to create quick and healthy meals.

There are many more volunteer opportunities, which you can learn about on the Boys & Girls Club of Manchester Facebook page.

Helping Hands Outreach Center: Helping Men Recover from Substance Abuse

Helping Hands Outreach Center is a faith-based community service agency that provides a safe environment for men recovering from substance abuse and addiction. In this sober space, the men can discover and implement tools necessary to live responsible and productive lives.

The men receive shelter, food, job training, and volunteer opportunities. With all these tools in place, they can learn self-sufficiency and gain a newfound confidence in their lives.

While the men living there are encouraged to volunteer, outside people come to work or volunteer in the two shelters. Whether it’s the Recovery Shelter or Gendron House, the volunteers will make sure every room is neat and clean and that the men are well on their way to recovery.
