I have completely lost confidence in Ira Toyota of Manchester after my most recent service experience. I brought my 2021 Toyota RAV4 in for service and was initially told that the oil pan drain plug threads were cross threaded and stripped and that the oil pan needed to be replaced. This immediately concerned me because my oil changes have been performed through Toyota, including an oil change at this dealership only approximately two months ago. When I questioned how the threads could be cross threaded when Toyota technicians have been servicing the vehicle, the explanation suddenly changed. After I pushed back and management became involved, I was then told the threads were simply worn down and that this was normal wear and tear. That change in explanation is extremely troubling to me. If the threads were simply worn from normal use, why was I initially told they were cross threaded and stripped? And if they were already severely worn, why was nothing mentioned during my oil change here approximately two months ago? I came looking for a reasonable explanation and assistance, not a diagnosis that seemed to change after I questioned whether the dealership could bear responsibility. Unfortunately, my interaction with management made the situation considerably worse. When I went in hoping to have a professional conversation about my concerns, the manager began by asking whether I was going to watch the Patriots game. When I tried to discuss the actual issue and challenged the explanation I was receiving, I felt dismissed rather than heard. I was essentially told that I was wrong, that he knew what he was talking about, not to tell him what to say or do, and most disappointing of all, that the dealership would make money with or without my business. Regardless of who ultimately bears responsibility for the oil pan threads, that is an unacceptable way to speak to a customer who is simply asking legitimate questions about a potentially expensive repair. I was not asking anyone to blindly accept responsibility. I was asking them to explain why the original diagnosis was cross threading and stripped threads, why that explanation subsequently became normal wear and tear, and why this supposedly significant wear was not identified when the dealership serviced the same drain plug approximately two months earlier. I chose Toyota dealership service because I believed it offered a higher level of expertise, accountability, and confidence in the work being performed. After this experience, I no longer have that confidence. I sincerely hope the owner or general manager of Ira Toyota of Manchester contacts me directly and reviews both the technician's original findings and my vehicle's service history. I would genuinely like an explanation of what happened and an opportunity for someone at this dealership to restore the trust that was lost today.
