The AWD system, which is unavailable with the Honda Odyssey, uses sensors to determine the perfect amount of torque required for the front and rear wheels to help keep traction. This way, no matter the road conditions you face, you’ll be ready to tackle it head-on.

In addition to the Toyota Sienna being equipped with the optional AWD system, you’ll also find that it can keep you on the road longer than the Honda Odyssey simply because the Sienna is now a hybrid. This means that it gets more miles per gallon than the Honda! Let’s examine that a little more:

Safety Suites

Keeping you and your family safe and secure from Point A to Point B is the most important thing each time you get behind the wheel. For that reason, the Toyota Sienna and Honda Odyssey both come with a suite of safety features.

Both minivans provide drivers with an extra layer of protection. Some of the standard systems of Honda Sensing® include the Collision Mitigation Braking System ™, Lane Departure Warning, and Adaptive Cruise Control with Low-Speed Follow.

Those who drive the Toyota Sienna will be treated to these standard driver-assistive systems:

Unique to the Toyota is the standard Safety Connect® package, a complimentary 1-year trial that can do a variety of things for you in the event of an emergency.

Inside the cabin, you’ll find an Emergency Assistance button that can connect you to an agent at our 24/7 response center. These agents can locate and deploy local emergency services to your location. So, whether you need a tow truck, ambulance, or local law enforcement, they can take care of that for you.

In the event you’re involved in an accident, the Sienna can automatically send an airbag deployment alert to our response center. In some cases, an agent will call you without you having to press a button.

Unfortunately, vehicle thefts happen. However, you don’t need to panic if your Sienna is ever stolen. It has a GPS built into it that will allow our response center, along with local law enforcement, to track it and recover it. They’ll work together to find your vehicle and return it to you, and all you’ll need to do is file a police report.

While the Honda Odyssey is a very safe vehicle, it doesn’t offer anything remotely close to Safety Connect®.

Interior Technology & Features

When preparing for long trips with your children, you’ll find that keeping them comfortable and entertained is as easy as turning on an entertainment system. While both vehicles have optional entertainment centers, there are some differences among these features that could further improve your travels.

When comparing the Toyota Sienna vs. Honda Odyssey entertainment packages, you’ll see that both have an available roof-mounted screen and a pair of wireless headphones. This can help keep everyone happy, but Toyota knows that not all the rear passengers always want to watch the same thing. Therefore, their entertainment system includes two screens, while the Odyssey system only features one display.

Speaking of screens, the Toyota has a bigger standard infotainment screen, at nine inches, than the Honda’s 5-inch display. In the Toyota, you’ll also be given standard Apple CarPlay® and Android Auto™ compatibility. These features allow you to connect your smartphone to the infotainment screen and access your music, podcasts, maps, text messages, and more!

Those who drive the Honda Odyssey will find that they’ll need to upgrade to a higher trim level to access Apple CarPlay® and Android Auto™, as they are unavailable in the base trim. Additionally, each vehicle features a 4G LTE Wi-Fi hotspot that is standard in the Sienna and available in the Odyssey.

When you’re connected and listening to your music, high-quality audio is a must. Each minivan can provide you with over available 10 speakers to bring a concert-like experience to your cabin. The Honda has an optional 550-watt, 11-speaker audio system with a subwoofer. The Toyota can give you a little more oomph with an available 12-speaker system by JBL®.

In addition to entertainment features, both the Toyota Sienna and Honda Odyssey feature power sliding doors to help make loading your minivan easier. However, in the Sienna, power sliding doors come standard, while they’re only available in the Odyssey. Additionally, both offer an optional power liftgate.

You also won’t find a power lift-up seat in the Odyssey either. This available chair is a power rotating front-passenger seat that extends from the inside of your Toyota Sienna to make getting in and out of the minivan that much easier for those who might need a little extra help.

Trim Levels & Exterior Colors

If having trim level options is important to you, you’ll find plenty of them when you’re deciding between the Toyota Sienna and Honda Odyssey. The Honda has five trims:

• LX
• EX
• EX-L
• Touring
• Elite

The Toyota Sienna, on the other hand, offers six trim levels, one more than the Honda. They are: LE, XLE, Woodland Edition, XSE, Limited, Platinum.

In addition to the Toyota offering more trims, it also offers you more ways to customize the exterior with colors that’ll make other drivers green with envy. You can choose from 10 colors: Cement, White, Windchill Pearl, Celestial Silver Metallic, Predawn Gray Mica, Midnight Black Metallic, Ruby Flare Pearl, Sunset Bronze Mica, Cypress, and Blueprint.

In comparison, the Honda doesn’t give you as many color options, as it only has seven to choose from. They are: Platinum White Pearl, Lunar Silver Metallic, Modern Steel Metallic, Obsidian Blue Pearl, Pacific Pewter Metallic, Radiant Red Metallic II, Crystal Black Pearl.
