If so, then read on to learn all about the Toyota 4Runner’s specs. We’ll go over some of the highlights so you can be fully informed when you come for your test drive.

Power and Performance

Toyota 4RunnerThe 2022 Toyota 4Runner has eight available trims with one engine equipped to them all—that’s because this engine is a doozy. The 4.0L V6 offers an impressive 270 horsepower and 278 lb-ft of torque. When it comes to fuel efficiency, you’ll have an EPA-estimated 16 city and 19 highway MPG with a 23-gallon fuel tank to help you get where you need to go.1

Standard, you’ll have rear-wheel drive, which means power only goes to the rear wheels. You can also upgrade to a part-time 4-wheel drive (4WD) system, which will mostly send power to the rear wheels but can send power to all four wheels when it is needed. This can help you with traction on any terrain.

Available only on the Limited trim is full-time 4-wheel drive, which means that the vehicle is able to move power between two wheels and four wheels as needed and without you making the change.

Presence On and Off the Road

Toyota 4Runner Off-RoadNo one likes to be bullied on the road by bigger vehicles, so it’s a good thing that the 2022 Toyota 4Runner is big enough to stand on its own. This SUV is 190.2 inches long, 75.8 inches wide, and 71.5 inches tall, not including the roof rails. These numbers vary a bit amongst the trims, and we’ll go over these differences below:

  • The TRD Pro trim is 72 inches tall
  • The TRD Off-Road, TRD Off-Road Premium, and TRD Pro trims are all 191.3 inches long
  • The Limited Trim is 190.7 inches long

While the length and height differ across a few trims, the wheelbase length remains the same across all eight trims: 109.8. The wheelbase refers to the distance between the front and rear wheels and is a big factor in how your vehicle handles.

This is an SUV made for the outdoors, and to help make it over sticks, rocks, and streams, all 2-wheel drive versions have a 9-inch ground clearance. Meanwhile, 4-wheel drive versions increase this to 9.6 inches.

Room to Grow

Toyota 4Runner driving through mudThe 2022 Toyota 4Runner is not only built for the outdoors but for your family as well. This SUV seats at least five, but the SR5, SR5 Premium, and Limited trims can be outfitted with a third row that increases the capacity to seven. Below, you’ll find the interior dimensions of the 4Runner:

  • Headroom (Front/Second/Third): 39.3 inches/38.6 inches/34.3 inches
  • Shoulder Room (Front/Second/Third): 57.8 inches/57.8 inches/57.7 inches
  • Hip Room (Front/Second/Third): 56.5 inches/55.7 inches/43.3 inches
  • Legroom (Front/Second/Third): 41.7 inches/32.9 inches/29.3 inches

When it comes to packing suitcases, backpacks, and gear, if you go with a 3-row model, you’ll have nine cubic feet of cargo space in the truck. Folding down the third row, or on 2-row models, you’ll have 46.3 cubic feet of cargo space behind the second row. On a solo journey? Fold down all the rear seats and expand your cargo space to 88.8 cubic feet.
